AUGUST 2011

We've been adding a lot of new information to the website about Meningitis and our support of research projects recently.

A lot of the new information is on the research page, which includes details on the Haemodialfiltration Unit Machine that we donated to Yorkhill Hospital. Tied in with that your can also read more about the Haemo–Diafiltration process (complete with diagrams).

Additional information has been added about the long term effects of Meningitis and Group B Streptococcus (GBS) and considerations for pregnant women.

FEBRUARY 2011

Meningitis Association Scotland will be attending the Scottish Baby and Toddler Show at the SECC, Glasgow. The event will be held on Fri 29th April, Saturday 30th April and Sunday the 1st of May 2011.

Come along and see some wonderful stands but, most importantly for all pregnant women, find out about the Strep 'B' test that can be made available during your pregnancy. It is crucial that you know about this as it could just save your babies life.

JUNE 2009

Eileen McKiernan, Founder and Chief Executive for Meningitis Association Scotland, has been awarded an MBE for Voluntary Services to Healthcare.

The former Evening Times Scotswoman of the Year, has worked tirelessly to raise funds for research into the disease. Her involvement began after the tragic loss of her own son Lee McKiernan aged 17.

"I don't campaign to win awards like this, I do it for other reasons" said Mrs McKiernan. "I'm absolutely honoured and thrilled. It's a great testament to the scientists and physicians working in this fieldT

Bolivia Trip 2007

Bolivian flatA major undertaking for this year will be a 2-month trip to Bolivia by Dr Matthew Diggle with Dr Donald Inverarity.

  • The aims for the trip are to help understand the disease in Boliva
  • and to train local people in its treatment & diagnosis
